7th Ave Rm 109/CST

Approximately one week ago, the hot water coil in our unit ventilator in classroom 109 broke due to the cold temperatures damaging the classroom and the offices beneath it. Upon learning of the issue, staff immediately removed the wet carpets followed by the furniture over the next couple of days. The district contacted our insurance provider to help assess the situation. As part of the clean up, a Certified Industrial Hygienist tested the areas. Though there was no visible areas of mold, these measures are taken before cleanup to ensure the proper protocols and plans are developed. The results showed elevated levels of mold in the air in the three locations. A plan will be provided to the district to address those three areas including a thorough cleaning of the area by a qualified vendor. Furthermore, the CIH will return to the building to ensure that the elevated levels of mold are limited to the impacted areas of this incident. As a precautionary measure, since the CST suite is all interconnected, the district will close the offices while completing further testing to ensure all areas are at normal levels.

Lastly, the rooms will receive new flooring, painted walls, and furniture. Materials impacted by the leak will be replaced and are currently being ordered. Though we do not have an official timeline at this point, it is safe to project that these rooms will not be used for the next 30 days due to lead times for materials such as flooring.

The district will provide further updates as information is received.

Update as of 2/5/20:

As a precautionary measure, the district tested several areas in Seventh Ave Elementary School and the Administration offices to ensure that the issue that arose was due to the recent water issue and did not extend any further. The tests have been analyzed and the district has been notified that the areas in 7th Ave Elementary and the main area of the CST do not have any abnormal counts of mold spores in the air. At this time, three offices in the CST and the classroom Rm 109 will be closed until the cleaning is complete, walls have been painted, and the flooring replaced. Lastly, those areas will not be open until post-testing from a certified industrial hygienist show normal levels.
