Adopt-A-Cop is an amazing initiative that we started in all three of our elementary schools in 2015 as a way for our town’s police officers to be more involved with our kids, and reinforce the meaning of being a good “citizen”. The participating Haddon Heights police officers are guest readers in the classrooms, make visits to class parties, conduct safety lectures, participate in some assemblies, help students with team building exercises, and be a positive role model.

An officer comes to each elementary school once a week and will spend quality time with one specific class each time they come on a rotating schedule. We have also equipped each officer with our school’s “golden tickets” to hand out to our students outside of school, as a way to “ticket students for good behavior”. Overall, our goal is to create a positive collaboration between our elementary schools and the police department, reinforce our character education program, and have our kids get to know our town’s officers. We are excited about the merits of this program, and believe they are highly beneficial for all of the students. This program received a commendation from the HH Mayor during its first year of inception.
