Letter from the Superintendent

November 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Listed below is some information regarding happenings at the Elementary Schools and the Jr./Sr. High School.

The MAP/Classworks pilot is underway. The staff members that are involved in the pilot have been trained and have started to integrate this into their classes. There are a few classes in the elementary schools piloting this new program and these classes have already started MAP testing. The first round of testing went well and the students were actively engaged. The next step is to upload the testing data. Once uploaded, the data will be available to these select teachers and allow them to create individual learning paths and differentiated lessons for each student based on their unique needs.

Mr. Baals and the elementary principals sponsored a Cyber Safety Night for the community. Students also took part in a Red Ribbon week assembly. These presentations were conducted by Detective Chris Robinson and Special Agent Kim Gautier from Homeland Security. The assemblies provided information on internet safety, which included such topics as safe and unsafe apps, how to set up filters, safe-sharing, cyber bullying, and how to recognize and report a predator. It was very informative and well received.

During the Week of Respect the Jr./Sr. High School held an assembly on anti-bullying. This assembly blended dance with the anti-bullying message. The assembly was well received by both the staff and the students. Also during the Week of Respect, students led daily announcements promoting respect for others.

During the month of October over 160 students per week met with teachers during Garnet Time. In addition, some clubs and activities are utilizing Garnet Time and, as a result, students are able to attend multiple clubs.
